Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:
- Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
- Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
- Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
- Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)
If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.
SPE 100: The Speech,Language And
Hearing Professions
3 credits
The purpose of this class is to acquaint students with the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology. A variety of communication impairments are discussed. Assessment and intervention techniques for individuals with communication impairments are also discussed. Field trips and invited speakers offer students exposure. Collaboration with other professionals is explored.
Learning Goals
COURSE OBJECTIVES/PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES Upon completion of this course, students will be able to : 1. Describe the roles and responsibilities of the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology (ASHA III-H)2. Describe the anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanisms (ASHA III-B).3. Compare and contrast the main characteristics of the different types of communication disorders (ASHA III-C). 4. Describe principles of evidence-based practice (ASHA III-F).5. Demonstrate improved professional writing and oral skills (ASHA IV-B) Notes and Pre-requisites0876-100 is a prerequisite for all 200 level and above courses in CSD
