Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


SWK 240: Intergroup Dialogue: Facilitating Social Justice Conversation

3 credits

Students will learn to plan, facilitate and evaluate a dialogue based in the model of Intergroup Dialogue. Students will also develop a critical awareness of social identities, understand one’s own connections to power, privilege and oppression and practice intercommunication skills such as active listening, purposeful sending and providing feedback.

Learning Goals

Students will:1. Develop an awareness of themselves as a member of a social identity group.2. Increase knowledge of multiple social identities and the diversity within identities.3. Analyze the dynamics of power, privilege and oppression.4. Reflect on the interconnections between forms of oppression.5. Describe theories, concepts and practices informing “Intergroup Dialogue”6. Demonstrate dialoguing skills around issues of diversity and social justice.7. Demonstrate dialogue group facilitation skills by planning, co-facilitating and evaluating one in-class or out of class Intergroup Dialogue session.
