Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:
- Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
- Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
- Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
- Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)
If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.
SPA 246: Spain Today
3 credits
Students gain a critical understanding of Spanish culture and civilization as reflected in its current literature and way of life. They focus on significant aspects of the culture of Spain from 1975 to the present and compare those aspects to Spain's history and heritage. (Learning Goals:G,CO;Distribution Reqs:Humanities)
Learning Goals
Students will:1. Understand today's Spain as a cultural construction recognizing which values affect society.2. Examine Spain's role in the European Union and its projection towards the millennium.3. Develop a critical awareness of the different cultural and social manifestations of each of the seventeen autonomous communities in which Spain is divided.4. Be introduced to the music, films, mass media, and arts of contemporary Spain.5. Study the political institutions and the role of the monarchy.6. Develop oral and written skills in order to expose ideas and opinions critically.
