Course Search


Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


SPA 248: Trends And Tendencies In Hispanic America

3 credits

Students examine the significant cultural, historical, social, economic, political, religious and educational issues that contributed to the evolution of a large part of the New World. They learn to identify the American continents and its people and to correct misconceptions about them that may exist. (Learning Goals:G,CO;Distribution Reqs:Humanities)

Learning Goals

The main student objective is to become acquainted with the subject matter of the text so as to understand and be able to express coherently (orally and in writing) many aspects of the complex meaning of what America is, how it came to be, as well as to have a sense of the many nations it comprises, their people, their origins, cultures and the languages that contribute to its diverse nature, its development, and current relationship to the rest of the world.
