Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:
- Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
- Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
- Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
- Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)
If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.
PIA 300: Cross-Cultural Psychology
3 credits
Designed to introduce students to the field of cross-cultural psychology. Lectures, activities, assignments, and readings are aimed at helping students increase their personal awareness of cross-cultural issues, increase their culture-specific knowledge about individuals from various cultural groups, and increase their sensitivity to and respect for individuals and cultural differences. Learning Goals
Given the growing diversity in the population, conceptual frameworks for understanding diversity and difference across populations in psychology are important. The primary learning objectives of this course are: 1. Increase awareness and knowledge of cross-cultural psychology, 2. Learn the complexities of culture in describing human psychological development and behavior, 3. Develop skills needed to critically examine psychological theories and research from a cross-cultural perspective4. Become aware and sensitive to individual differences while reflecting upon yourself as a cultural being.
