Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


ITA 310: Strategies In Italian Oral Communications

3 credits

Students develop competence in informal and formal modes of oral expression, including group interaction, dramatic role-playing, debating, reciting, etc., with an emphasis on improving pronunciation and vocabulary. Students are exposed to Italian phonetics and the International Phonetic Alphabet. Intended for Italian majors and minors, this course is conducted in Italian.

Learning Goals

At the conclusion of this course students will be able to: a)Use spoken Italian at an advanced,fluent level, b)Develop and maintain discussions in Italian, c)switch properly between the informal tu and the formal Lei forms of address, d) Ask for repetitions and explanations.e) Express wants, needs and opinions in Italian. f)Complete real-life tasks which correspond to situations likely to be found in Italy, g)Summarize key points of a written text in conversation. h)Predict behaviors, consequences and outcomes given a specific set of circumstances while interacting exclusively in the target language. i)Modulate linguistic register in a given interaction to suit a variety of real-life situations.
