Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


NUR 357: Healing And The Arts

3 credits

This course examines the role of the arts both as historical chroniclers and social commentators about healing and healing systems. The therapeutic use of music, dance, art, and drama to diagnose and heal is also explored. Examples are drawn from folk art and from contemporary art forms. (Distribution Reqs:Arts)

Learning Goals

Upon completion of this course, the student through discussion, class participation, and written assignment will be able to meet the following Course Objectives:1. describe the role of the arts as historical chroniclers of healing.2. describe the preparation of shaman and folk healers.3. discuss the role of folk arts in healing.4. discuss the role of the arts in contemporary diagnosis and healing.5. describe the educational preparation of art, music, dance, and drama therapists.6. discuss the role of the arts in providing social commentary about healing and healing systems.
