Course Search


Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


ANT 360: The Met: A Global Museum

3 credits

Students will use the Metropolitan Museum of Art with its galleries and multiple departments as a classroom, gaining exposure to the multiple facets of the workings of a global museum. We explore critical issues facing the field and use opportunities for discussions with the museum professionals.

Learning Goals

Students will examine the everyday workings of a global museum.Students will further develop their visual literacy and critical approach to the visual art in relation to the exhibition spaces and the complex relations between the objects within those spaces.Students will learn how to examine objects first-hand (essentially, how and where to LOOK, what questions to ask).Students will contextualize art works within their cultural, political, religious, and historical backgrounds.Students will analyze, apply, and synthesize different research methods relating to art objects.
