Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:
- Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
- Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
- Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
- Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)
If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.
HIN 502: Introduction To U.S. Health
Care Organization
3 credits
The course introduces students to the historical development, structure, operation, and future directions of the major components of the American health care delivery system. It will address the issues of access, quality, cost, and assess the contributions of medical technology, research, and societal values on our health care delivery system.
Learning Goals
1. Analyze the structure and function of the U.S. healthcare system.2. Evaluate key policies and regulations impacting healthcare delivery.3. Assess the role of healthcare providers in the U.S. system.4. Demonstrate the role that telehealth plays in providing ambulatory care services.5. Identify the factors that influence the demand for healthcare professionals and discuss healthcare workforce opportunities and challenges.6. Scrutinize key developments in healthcare, the concept of health systems thinking, and the value of workforce diversity.7. Discuss key aspects of the integrated ambulatory care models and the evolution and rise of ambulatory care services in hospitals and freestanding ambulatory care facilities.
