Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


EBE 540: Assessment Consideration For Esl And Bilingual Populations

3 credits

Develop an understanding of the critical role both assessment and decision-making processes play in English-Language-Learning classrooms; develop an understanding of the nature and characteristics of English-Language- Learners; and analyze traditional and non-traditional assessment procedures that can be used with English-Language-Learners.

Learning Goals

• Understand the critical role both assessment and decision-making processes play in English-Language-Learning classrooms.• Understand the nature and characteristics of English-Language-Learner students.Understand the difference in terms: Language Dominance; Language Preference & Language Proficiency.• Analyze the value of documentation as an on-going practice to gain insight into children’s development and to guide curricular decisions based on children’s needs, interests, and abilities.• Analyze the use of traditional assessment methods (standardized test and teacher-made tests) with English-Language-Learner students. Students will become familiar with the purpose of the most commonly used tests such as the NYSITELL and the NYSESLAT.• Explore various non-traditional assessment methods that can be used with English-Language-Learner students (e.g. observations, interviews, questionnaires, and portfolios).
