Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:
- Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
- Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
- Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
- Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)
If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.
SPY 610: Psychopathology In Children
And Adolescents
3 credits
Course covers several broad categories of childhood psychopathology, focusing on a select number of major diagnostic and intra-psychic factors, which serve as a foundation for understanding such behavior. A special emphasis is placed on an understanding a child's inner experience of the world, based on various psychoanalytic theories.
Learning Goals
The primary learning objectives of the course are:1. Become familiar with theoretical, empirical and historical foundations relevant for understanding psychopathology;2. Learn major characteristics of childhood psychopathology;3. Develop understanding of factors that contribute to psychopathology, including affect regulation, cognitive and relational patterns;4. Learn and distinguishing among various diagnostic and classification systems and their application to school situations;5. Identify systemic and contextual factors that contribute to psychopathology
