Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


SPY 629: Systemic Interventions With Children And Families

3 credits

Students will learn critical clinical skills and strategies associated with leading theories, models, and concepts in family and parenting interventions. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the needs and structure of families from diverse backgrounds and on reviewing evidence based practices in schools that help improve family and school collaboration.

Learning Goals

In this course, students will:1. Identify variables and dynamics related to healthy and unhealthy family functioning.2. Identify, articulate, and compare theories and techniques of family therapy and parenting based interventions.3. Describe the role of culture, ethnicity, gender, SES, etc. in family based interventions.4. Practice scholarly inquiry and the sharing of evidence based knowledge through class discussion and written work.
