Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:
- Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
- Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
- Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
- Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)
If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.
COM 410: Senior Thesis Seminar
3 credits
Students develop a substantial academic paper suitable for submission to conferences or journals. Through the process of multiple rewrites and class presentations, they identify an important issue in the discipline, locate sources, then develop a paper where they review the established literature and offer an original analysis of the issue.
Learning Goals
1. Learn the principles and ramifications of a variety of research methods prominent in the study of communications. 2. Learn the conventions of contemporary citation styles. 3. Learn to set up a research proposal. 4. Learn to develop a review of the literature. 5. Work in collaborative settings on research projects and presentations. 6. Learn to revise written work.
