Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:
- Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
- Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
- Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
- Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)
If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.
MTH 546: Partial Differential
Equations
3 credits
Students will analyze and solve partial differential equations. Students interpret solutions, use methods such as Fourier and Laplace transforms, study special functions such as Bessel and Green's functions. Students apply partial differential equations to model multivariate real-world systems.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to: - solve basic partial differential equations --- assessed by Quizzes #1 & 2- apply Fourier series and Sturm-Liouville theory to the solution of partial differential equations -- assessed by Quizzes 3 & 4- use difference methods to approximate solutions to real-world situations-- assessed by Quiz #5 and the mid-term examination- analyze and solve higher-dimensional and non-linear PDEs -- assessed by Quizzes 6-7- describe and apply special functions (Bessel and Green's functions) to the solution of partial differential equations -- assessed by Quizzes 8-9- use Laplace transforms to solve partial differential equations -- assessed by Quiz #10 and the Final Exam
