Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:
- Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
- Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
- Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
- Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)
If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.
PFA 111: The Profession And The
Working Actor
2 credits
Focus of this course will be obtaining work in the professional theater. The major actors' unions will also be covered. Putting together a picture/resume, actors' relationships to agents and managers, and making the rounds. Contracts, riders, and residuals. (Distribution Reqs:Arts)
Learning Goals
0192-111: THE PROFESSION AND THE WORKING ACTORStudents will:1) use this course to make an intelligent and informed transition into the ‘business’ of show business and professional performance;2) meet agents, directors and other professionals to gain their insights;3) meet with successful and working graduates of our programs to find out how they have made their choices in the profession;4) travel to New York City to explore theatre’s capital, the location of agents’ offices, and gain a general familiarity with the City;5) put previously learned skills, like resume-creation and the investigation of audition sources, to learn how to find work;6) learn about the acting unions and their relationship to a life spent in the arts;7) acquire a fully adult and professional ‘presentation’ as a professional in the art.
