Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:
- Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
- Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
- Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
- Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)
If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.
PFA 340: Rudiments Of Directing
2 credits
The directing student is introduced to script analysis, directorial concepts, dramaturgy, blocking action, casting and designing the recording book of the production. Consideration is given to the director’s role as a coordinator of all theatre action and design in a production, including budgeting and rehearsal scheduling. (Distribution Reqs:Arts)
Learning Goals
0192-340: RUDIMENTS OF DIRECTINGStudent will:1) be introduced to the process of stage direction and the specific duties of producing a play;2) practice the techniques of script analysis and their use to derive a directorial concept;3) learn such essential and basic techniques as blocking movement and aiding actors to find meaning in their texts;4) learn how to create a production budget, audition procedures and a rehearsal schedule;5) learn how to deal sensitively with design staff, actors and management.
