Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


DSC 678: Creating Organizational Value With Operations And Supply Chain Management

3 credits

This course focuses on the synthesis of strategy and operations in order to improve processes that provide competitive advantage. Methodologies that are examined include Strategy, Total Quality Management, Decision Making, Statistical Process Control, Forecasting, Production Analysis and Facility Design.

Learning Goals

Upon completion of this course, it is expected that you should be able to:• Assess how strategy and operations are utilized by an organization to develop a competitive advantage.• Articulate the role of operations and operations management in supporting the organization’s mission, goals, and strategic policies.• Illustrate the various operations management topics and how they interact with human resources in such a way that “Best Practices” are developed.• Illustrate the utilization of operations to develop competitive advantages in the functional areas of finance, human resources, marketing and production.• Contrast the application of operations in the manufacturing sector versus the service sector.• Discuss one topic in TQM or Six Sigma in depth based on research conducted as part of the required project. You must demonstrate proficiency in developing a thorough review of the literature, appropriate references and a well-developed and current bibliography. Your paper must demonstrate knowledge far and above the text’s discussion of the topic. You should also be prepared to present your findings to the class.
