Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


HRM 765: Developing World Class Human Resources

3 credits

Examines the management of human resources in a multinational context. Emphasizes the strategic role of human resource management and focuses on changing traditional human resources practices to meet the needs of a global organization. The course explores how 'best in class' human resources practices can improve an organization's bottom line.

Learning Goals

Course Goals: Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:  Identify the advantages of using a strategic approach to human resource management. Understand and explain the relationships among corporate, business, and human strategies and distinguish between congruent and incongruent strategies. Describe alternative approaches to staffing a multinational organization and list the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. Identify the problems related to performance management and explain how to minimize these problems. Explain how performance should be evaluated in a global setting. Describe the roles of human resources and management in training and development efforts. Identify various approaches to training and when they may or may not be relevant.  Develop a basic understanding of compensation in domestic and global contexts. Develop a basic understanding of labor relations in domestic and global contexts. For each area of human resource activity,  Distinguish between practices and processes that add value to the organization and those that don’t. Diagnosis factors contributing to deficiencies (especially whether design or implementation).  Prescribe alternatives that could increase the value added. Gain an in depth understanding of one aspect of the human resource function (including familiarity with the nature of the evidence or fact-based research related to it).
