Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


NUR 483: Transition To Professional Practice

6 credits

A capstone course in which students explore the social, economic and political context in which professional nurses provide care. Current trends and issues and concepts of effective leadership and management are discussed. A required precepted clinical experience allows for integration of concepts, application of evidence-based practice, and critical thinking.

Learning Goals

Course Objective1. Evaluate and identify the impact of economic, social and political issues on the delivery of patient centered nursing care.2. Integrate and apply principles of evidence-based practice in the provision of care.3. Deliver evidence based care to patients and families which reflects family preferences and provides patient education. 4. Synthesize knowledge from nursing, humanities, sciences, and the arts as a basis for care of patients.5. Demonstrate prioritization skills when providing care for individual and groups of patients.6. Recognize the impact of culture on responses to health and illness.7. Integrate and evaluate best practices in providing patient care.8. Utilize informatics to communicate, gather information to provide care, and develop evidenced based interventions for quality and patient care.9. Use research data, nursing informatics, and multiple data sources when formulating and implementing plans of care.10. Demonstrate behavior consistent with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.11. Demonstrate professional role behaviors that are guided by ethical/legal principles and standards of practice.12. Exhibit an understanding of the impact of the present and future delivery of holistic health care.13. Discuss career planning perspective necessary for entry into professional nursing practice.15. Develop an awareness of societal and political impacts on the healthcare delivery system.16. Compare the roles and perspectives of the nursing profession with other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.17. Discuss effective conflict resolution techniques when working with inter-professional teams.18. Demonstrate thorough, accurate, and professional documentation in collaboration with members of the interdisciplinary health care team.19. Engage in scholarly writing.
