Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


SWK 752: Stress,Crisis,Trauma And Coping

3 credits

This course focuses on understanding stress, crisis, trauma and coping as well as their short and long term consequences along the life cycle in diverse socio-cultural contexts, and, developing evidence-based knowledge and skills for best practices with affected individuals, families and communities.

Learning Goals

1. Differentiate between stress, crisis, trauma, coping and adaptation in individuals, families and communities2. Demonstrate knowledge of risk factors for traumatic reaction to stress along the life cycle and in diverse cultural contexts3. Articulate potential pathogenic and salutogenic effects of stress and trauma (PTSD and PTG)4. Perform advanced assessments of stress, crisis and trauma in individuals, couples and families, and groups informed by cutting edge evidence5. Design and implement practice interventions with individuals, couples and families, and groups affected by stress, crisis and trauma informed by contemporary models for best clinical practices6. Enhance their practice effectiveness with those affected by stress, crisis and trauma through systematic evaluation of their interventions
