Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


PIA 240: History Of Psychology

3 credits

Survey of the history of psychology from Socrates and Hipppocrates to recent times. Special attention given to the influence of philosophy and science upon the formation of contemporary psychology. The course concludes with a survey of the major systems.

Learning Goals

There are five goals delineated for the CAP experience, which include: 1) knowledge base of psychology; 2) research methods in psychology; 3) critical thinking skills 4) information and technological literacy; and 5) communication skills. Goal Knowledge Base of Psychology Students will demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology.Course Objectives:1. Understand the various influences on psychology from the 17th century to the present.2. Gain an understanding of the numerous psychological systems.3. Trace the development of psychology as a profession.4. Compare the various traditions in psychology and show their current manifestations in different views of psychology.
