Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:
- Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
- Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
- Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
- Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)
If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.
PSI 620: Theory & Practice I:
Freudian Legacy
3 credits
This course examines the development of Freud's thought through an in-depth study of his major theoretical works and briefly explores his legacy in post-Freudian ego psychology. From this perspective, the student will begin to build the foundation upon which later developments in psychoanalytic theory can be best understood.
Learning Goals
As psychologists we want to think about the empirical evidence underlying our psychodynamic concepts, to think about the doubt expressed about Freudian and other psychoanalytic ideas and the therapy informed by them to other cultures (and even to underprivileged populations in our own culture) and to think about the data that suggests that most people do not come for psychological help prepared to spend several years and more than a single session per week in psychotherapy.It is expected that students will gain an understanding of:(a.) the basic tenants of Freud’s psychoanalytic system of psychology,
