Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


SPY 613: Implementing School-Based Prevention Programs

3 credits

This course will explore strategies for preventing mental health problems in youth. The focus will be on the development and implementation of prevention measures to reduce a variety of mental health related problems facing youth in schools, including delinquency, substance abuse, and learning failures.

Learning Goals

1. Increase student knowledge of the field of prevention and youth development and the models, methods, and practices within them2. Increase student knowledge of the principles and core elements of effective prevention practices within schools3. Increase student knowledge of the evidence based child and adolescent focused interventions that can be used to prevent or mitigate the growth of mental health problems in youth that are related to issues of:• School Failure• Social Competence of Regular and Special Needs Students• Relational Violence and Aggression
