Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


SPY 625: Counseling And Assessment Of The Multicultural Child

3 credits

The current assessment practices in the assessment of linguistically diverse children will be reviewed and students will learn the appropriate use of standardized measures, and when and how to conduct evaluations in the child’s first or second language. Current practices in counseling students from linguistically diverse backgrounds will be presented.

Learning Goals

In this course, students will have the opportunity to develop foundational knowledge in the following areas:1. become familiar with the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students2. become familiar with consultative issues for the bilingual child and his/her family3. learn how to conduct cognitive assessments for linguistically and culturally diverse students4. learn how to conduct a non-verbal assessment5. become familiar with adaptation and translation issues in standardized assessments6. learn to assess bilingual/bicultural children for academic achievement
