Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:
- Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
- Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
- Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
- Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)
If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.
ASO 284: Theories Of Human Behavior
4 credits
The central question of this course is: What is personality, and how does it develop? The class will read and discuss various theorists who try, in different ways, to answer this question. The paradigms of personality explored include behavioral, psychoanalytic, trait, and existential.
Learning Goals
Course Objectives:1. To introduce students to the study of personality and major theories of personality.2. To introduce students to major contributors to the study of personality.3. To understand the scientific research methods used in the study of personality.4. To understand various personality assessment techniques.5. To discuss major components of personality, including motivation, sexuality, emotion, cognition, aggression, etc.6. To discuss the relevance of dreams and unconscious factors in personality7. To understand developmental aspects/theories of personality.8. To understand the basis for personality disorders.9. To understand cultural, social and belief system influences on personality.10. To understand therapeutic techniques used to explore/change individuals’ personality.
