Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


EDO 603: The Adolescent Experience

3 credits

Examine the many dimensions of the adolescent experience. Development of adolescent gender, sexuality, intellectual, ethical growth, political, and social development are examined. Adolescent subjectivity is explored, with particular reference to use of popular culture and the construction of adolescence in popular media.

Learning Goals

1. Develop an understanding of the developmental processes adolescents undergo including social, cognitive, and biological.2. Identify similarities and differences in growth and maturation patterns of adolescents.3. Gain an understanding of how environmental factors may influence adolescent development.4. Examine current issues affecting adolescents today including risk behaviors, media, and peer relationships.5. Apply research findings from the study of adolescent development to experiences in teaching, learning, and the classroom.6. Apply theory to teaching methodology and observation analysis.
