Course Search


Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


PED 509: Health Related Fitness Education

3 credits

Overview of the various curricula and pedagogical applications to teaching of health related fitness and nutrition concepts. Applications are made both to elementary and secondary schools. Physical Best certification included as one of the course requirements.

Learning Goals

• Scholarship – Know and apply health related fitness concepts to the school setting; P-12.• Reflective Practice – Through a reflective journal, identify strengths and weaknesses in the peer teaching assignment of a fitness activity/concept as well as the Fitnessgram presentation and eating/PA logs.• Social Justice – Relate to and be tolerant of children with various differences, especially physical development such as obesity and low fitness physical activity levels.• Inclusive Community – Demonstrate the role of physical education in connecting parents and the community to the comprehensive team approach in Physical Education.• Wellness – Know the components of total wellness, and how it is integrated within a quality program of Physical Education.• Creativity – Demonstrate the ability to re-design games, exercises, and related activities to enhance physical activity levels in Physical Education as well as at home and in the community.
