Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


SPH 610: Speech Disorders In Children

3 credits

This is an intensive study of articulation and phonological development and disorders in children. Emphasis will be on assessment and intervention along with identification of language differences in assessment with diverse populations. Special topics will include the role of phonological awareness skills in literacy acquisition and childhood apraxia of speech.

Learning Goals

LEARNER OBJECTIVES/PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES: This course is designed to meet formal competencies as outlined in 2008 KASA standards of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Specifically, this course will attend to the competencies of “knowledge”, “assessment”, “skills” and “intervention”. You will be assessed according to your performance across the stated learner objectives.These learner objectives also fulfill the philosophical requirements of NCATE as the CSD Department is within Adelphi University’s School of Education. This includes six core values we strive to impart to our students through classroom and clinical experiences. They are “scholarship”, “reflective practice”, “social justice”, “inclusive community”, “wellness” and “creativity/the arts”.
