Course Search


Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


CHI 121: Chinese Level I I I

3 credits

Through a communicative/participatory approach, students learn the basic elements of the language including listening, speaking, reading, writing and culture. (Learning Goals:CO,G)

Learning Goals

To help the students acquire knowledge of important aspects of the culture of the target language, to develop their knowledge of spoken and written Chinese and to assist them in gaining a proficiency in using the language in real-life environments.By the end of the semester, the students will be able to: 1.Write short notes/email messages in Chinese. 2.Conduct everyday conversation in Chinese on familiar tropics 3.Do the following in Chinese: 1) Describe the weather. 2) Talk about the four seasons. 3) Say that something will happen in the near future. 4) Describe the means of transportation. 5) Talk about travel plans. 6) Describe the symptoms of an illness. 7) Describe something that has happened. 8) Describe a changing situation. 9) Talk about renting an apartment. 10) Indicate the direction of a movement. 11) Specify the effects or results of an action on an object. 12) Talk about future plans. 13) Express blessings and wishes. 14) Give examples. The students will be exposed to cultural information on various aspects of China, along with activities designed to develop students' reading and writing skills.
