Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


EEC 700: Foundations, Families,Cultures And Learning

3 credits

This course examines the cultural and historical influences of families and educational institutions on children's development. Young children's cognitive, linguistic, and affective growth, in relation to the impact of the culture of their family and school, will be explored.

Learning Goals

PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES:Course Objectives are organized based on the 6 goals of the Conceptual Framework of Adelphi’s School of Education Conceptual Framework.Scholarship:Students will read widely in current theory surrounding multicultural education issues.Reflective Practice:Students will explore theory in action through collaborating on service learning projects with area educators and their students.Social Justice:Students will explore strategies to meet the needs of all students including multicultural education, critical literacy, and education for social justice.Inclusive Community:Students will actively engage with multiple communities, practice collaborativemultidisciplinary learning environments, and strategize on how to make use ofcommunity resources and organizations and build partnerships and coalitions for change.Wellness:Students will reflect on the ways community action can enhance personal development across dimensions: including the ethical, the spiritual, the physical and the emotional.Creativity and the Arts:Students will be encouraged to pursue curriculum development projects that integrate the arts across content areas.
