Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


EST 307: Introduction To Philosophy Of Education

3 credits

Philosophically reflect on and analyze the basic assumptions that underlie and influence educational policy and practice. Basic philosophical notions are examined in relation to curricular and pedagogical approaches employed in today's schools.

Course Goals-To gain a critical understanding of the philosophical foundations of education-To cultivate your ability to articulate an informed, clear and personally meaningful set of beliefs concerning education-To gain insight into the philosophical assumptions which underlie current educational thought and practice-To create knowledge through a collaborative process with your peersPerformance OutcomesCourse objectives are organized based on the 6 goals of the Conceptual Framework: scholarship, reflective practice, social justice, inclusive community, wellness, and creativity and the arts.ScholarshipTeacher candidates will :• Produce high quality written work• Be able to express themselves through different discourse modes: the written, the visual, the oral• Be able to research topics in the field of philosophy and educationReflective PracticeTeacher candidates will:• Practice self-reflection through autobiographical, dialogical and research exercises• Be able to assess themselves in terms of their burgeoning teaching approachSocial JusticeTeacher candidates will:A. Demonstrate knowledge of racism, sexism and economic inequities as they bear upon the schooling processB.
