Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.


NUR 397: Nursing Care Of Adults I

7 credits

First of two courses focusing on providing nursing care for adult patients with alterations in physiological integrity. Students will learn to provide high quality, patient centered care, using the nursing process to promote optimal well being. Emphasis will be on promoting clinical reasoning skills, integrating best practices, and ensuring patient safety.

Learning Goals

Upon completion of this course, the student will:Demonstrate knowledge of the pathophysiology,clinical manifestations, and medical treatment ofpatients with altered oxygenation, circulation,hematologic, endocrine, gastrointestinal andneurologic function.• Gather and record patient data findings, includingnursing, medical, laboratory, radiographic,pharmacologic, and psychosocial and other pertinent data, when caring for medical-surgical patients. • Discuss the principles of prioritizing nursing care when caring for the medical-surgical patient. • Discuss the principles of safe medication administration in the medical-surgical setting.Demonstrate ability to organize patient data in a coherent manner using clinical reasoning skills and generate appropriate nursing diagnoses/interventions • Use the nursing process as a framework to plan care for the medical-surgical patient.• Discuss personal and cultural influences on an individuals's reactions to the illness experience. • Develop strategies for inter-professional collaboration and communication which reflect respect for personal and cultural differences. • Identify medically safe personal and cultural preferences which may be encountered when caring for medical-surgical patients.• Identify evidence based nursing interventions which promote optimal patient care outcomes in the medical-surgical patient. • Incorporated evidence based nursing interventions into the plan of care.Discuss the use of information technologies in the medical surgical setting. • Explain patient privacy guidelines and regulations related to informatics and communication technology.
