How does social class shape culture in contemporary American society, in terms of identities, tastes, styles, beliefs, consumption, and perceptions of reality? This course is a sociological examination of class, culture, and power. Students will examine “high” and “low” culture, and unpack concepts such as middle-class values and cultural appropriation.
