In a series of directed experiments, students will explore collage and photomontage as a way of producing new forms and meanings through the juxtaposition of pre-existing visual materials. Studio production will be augmented by group critiques, discussion and visual presentations that examine historical and contemporary examples of the idiom. (Distribution Reqs:Arts) |

COURSE LEARNING GOALS: Students will• Understand a range of artistic processes/materials/issues/ideas/questions related to collage arts and visual culture and how this relates to their own artistic process.• Create, through a series of directed and open-ended assignments, abstract, representational, and semiabstract imagery collages• Examine the history of collage• Do individual and collaborative artwork and artistic practices that work with a variety of conceptual ideas/content.• Drawing upon the creativity and critical thinking abilities of class members, create meaningful discussions on both the traditions and possibilities of collage art making and the field of contemporary art. *The learning goals displayed here are those for one section of this course as offered in a recent semester, and are provided for the purpose of information only.
