Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

Statics of particles, equilibrium of rigid bodies, centroids and centers of gravity, analysis of structures, friction, forces in beams and cables, moments of inertia, methods of virtual work.

Learning Goals:   COURSE LEARNING GOALSThe goal of the course is to introduce engineering and physics majors the concepts of statics. The course is expected to provide an in depth knowledge of mechanics of structures so that the students can solve real world problems. We will be using vector methods all along. You may like to brush up your background on vectors. The course is heavily based on problem solving skills. The course will improve the analytical and mathematical skills of the students as well. Statics is a basic engineering subject and therefore majors of all engineering disciplines learn the subject. You will find applications in almost every engineering discipline including structures, buildings, bridges, trusses, dams, biomechanics of bodies, mechanical engineering applications to name a few.
