Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

Students will further develop research skills by conducting a research project related to upper-level physics course material. Students will conduct a literature review on their topic of interest, develop a proposal for a project, perform the semester-long research project, and disseminate their findings in an academic journal-quality report.

Learning Goals:   Students will:Differentiate between credible and untrustworthy resources and properly cite the corresponding information. Identify and summarize external resources through online search or physical texts, both of which can be aided by the Adelphi Library.Write a research proposal, which clearly details both the topics of inquiry as well as the theoretical, numerical, and experimental means by which the project will be conducted.Demonstrate the use of physical concepts from a wide range of upper-level physics topics, including electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, and more, as well as hands-on skills developed in the previous two project lab courses.Revise and improve their project throughout the semester, learning to adjust and append goals during the lifecycle of a project. Incorporate aspects of theoretical, experimental, and numerical physics through the use of mathematics, software (Excel, MATLAB, etc.), and deliberate use of the physics department’s student lab materials/equipment.
