This course focuses on the styles and trends of music from the Romantic era through the 20th Century. Seminal composers and their works will be studied within the context of their socio- historical framework. (Learning Goals:G) |
| Learning Goals: |
Students will learn to recognize and categorize styles and schools of musical practice and to contextualise these within a society rapidly evolving through unprecedented periods of dynamic scientific discovery; reassessment of religion: industrial revolution; the rise of the middle classes and empowerment of lower social orders through Revolution and radical restructuring of the nature of society. The course will enable students to use appropriate musicological language in discussing the evolution and categorization of musical style, to compare and contrast various genres, and to demonstrate technical familiarity with a variety of musical developments. *The learning goals displayed here are those for one section of this course as offered in a recent semester, and are provided for the purpose of information only.
