Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

Research and report presentation, both written and oral. Emphasis on clarity and conciseness in writing applied to business letters, memos, and short and long reports; persuasive speaking to one or many; communication skills for the work place. (Learning Goals:CW,CO)

Learning Goals:   Upon completion of this course, the successful student should be able to: -Describe communication principles, methods, and techniques that can be used to improve written and oral communication skills.- Gain an understanding of the different types of communication styles used in global and multicultural work settings.- Articulate the difference between verbal and nonverbal communication, and formal and informal business messages, and know when and how to convey neutral messages, ‘good’ news messages, and ‘bad’ news messages.- Write business messages that are clear and concise, and tailored to specific audiences.- Describe the different formats and conventions used to compose text messages, e-mails, memos, letters, outlines, and business reports, and demonstrate proficiency in planning, composing, and proofreading these types of messages.- Effectively use electronic email and the internet for research.- Plan, prepare, and critique oral presentations, and give professional individual and team presentations (with and without visual aids such as Power Point).- Ability to identify and create at least four basic business written communications (letter, memo, report and Power Point).- Communicate more effectively in a business setting.- Prepare a personal resume and job application letter.
