Description:

This three credit course is the first of three comprehensive courses focusing on diagnosis and management of the primary care adult. Content related to cardiac, respiratory, hematological, dermatological, eyes, ears, nose and throat disorders are emphasized. Complementing this course is the clinical practicum where application of didactic work is integrated.

Learning Goals:   LEARNING GOALS/OUTCOMESMASTER OF SCIENCE IN NURSING PROGRAMThe graduate will be able to:1.Demonstrate knowledge of complex systems and skill in collaboration with others.2. Integrate theories and knowledge into practice to provide evidence based quality care that is ethical, culturally competent, safe, efficient and cost effective to individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations.3. Use knowledge of healthcare policy to improve healthcare organizational, financial and delivery outcomes.4. Use information technology to design, implement, deliver, and evaluate health care.5. Value and demonstrate integrity, excellence. respect, accountability, and cultural competence in all aspects of nursing.Adult Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Program Goals1. Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for advanced nursing practice.2. Evaluate the influence of beliefs, values, and economic status on the provision of health care and client health behaviors.3. Demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning in the implementation of advanced therapeutic interventions with clients across the adult-geriatric life cycle.4. Function in collaborative advanced practice roles as members and leaders of interdisciplinary teams in a variety of health care settings.5. Demonstrate an understanding of and implementation of legal and ethical standards that influence advanced practice.6. Demonstrate competencies as an Advanced Practice Nurse by successfully meeting national standards for certification.
