Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

Students will examine the complex interaction of psychological, social, spiritual and biological factors in promoting healthy lifestyles, improving well-being, preventing disease, managing illness and recovery, and preventing premature death.

Learning Goals:   Therefore, by the end of the course, students will be able to:1. Articulate the relevance of research and theory in behavioral health and identify the costs and benefits of empirical and theoretical models of health.2. Critically evaluate how biological, psychological, social and spiritual factors influence health, as well as the complex interplay of culture, age, race, gender, and socio-economic status3. Identify basic concepts and terminology of behavioral health and critically evaluate various ethical dilemmas, as well as the role of ethics and values in health research.4. Explain emerging issues in the field and the5. factors that promote or challenge health on the individual, family and community level.6. Analyze how health theories and models are used to develop interventions and how research findings can be used to inform public policy.
