Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

This course gives an overview of the field of cognitive psychology and research on affect, focusing on particular areas in applied and clinical work, including different forms and functions of memory, interaction of cognitive and emotional processes, and human rationality, looked at from neural, behavioral and information-processing perspectives.

Learning Goals:   The primary learning objectives of the course are: 1. Gain an understanding of classical and contemporary theoretical perspectives on human cognitive and affective processes. 2. Investigate current integrative research and the implications.3. Consider how neurobiological, sensory, developmental, interoceptive and relational perspectives foster and impact development of affect and cognition.4. Examine how gender, class, race and culture impact cognition and affect.5. Research and present to the class an investigative study of a specialized area of cognition/affect.6.Continue research and investigation of the topic chosen as a sub-specialty in the area of integrative affective studies resulting in a 15 page research paper.7. Learn to research, write and present an area of specialization in the field of Cognition and Affect, including your point of view and further questions in a concise and professional manner in verbal, written and multi media formats.7. Develop a 5 minute video summarizing your semester long investigation of a sub-speciality in this field, your findings, and your point of view about this topic.
