Description: |
Different assessment and intervention practices in addressing emotional and behavioral difficulties in schools will be reviewed. Students will learn to use functional behavioral assessment and relational analysis to understand behavior problems and develop appropriate interventions. The impact of learning difficulties on a child’s behavior and adjustment will be reviewed. |
Learning Goals: |
Upon completion of the course students will be able to:1. Conduct functional behavioral assessment to identify underlying factors that contribute to learning and behavior problems 2. Implement Tier 3 RTI strategies to develop interventions 3. Assess a child’s relational patterns and develop hypotheses on how a child’s social and relational skills contribute to his/her adjustment and progress in school 4. Identify contextual and family systems that influence a child’s adjustment in school. 5. Evaluate the impact of a child’s behavior and overall demeanor on his/her teachers and peers and also, how their expectations and perceptions of him/her impact his attitude towards learning and overall adjustment in school. 6.
