Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

This course aims at preparing students to sharpen clinical sensitivity to the child in the context of the family and school environment. This includes recognition that fulfillment of the child's developmental needs requires negotiation of both family and school, while listening to and respecting the inner world of the child.

Learning Goals:   Upon course completion students will demonstrate:• Knowledge of theory, research and practice of major approaches to improving the emotional, behavioral, social and educational functioning of children and adolescents• Ability to identify and develop evidence-based interventions• Ability to assess the efficacy of school-based service delivery practices and proposed measures to improve the scope and breadth of such services • Knowledge of multicultural, ethical, and legal considerations• Skills in the selection of an intervention approach or program appropriate for the child/adolescent problem• Skills in the implementation of the intervention with attention to school organizational issues• Skills in the evaluation of the effectiveness of the intervention
