Description: |
The current assessment practices in the assessment of linguistically diverse children will be reviewed and students will learn the appropriate use of standardized measures, and when and how to conduct evaluations in the child’s first or second language. Current practices in counseling students from linguistically diverse backgrounds will be presented. |
Learning Goals: |
In this course, students will have the opportunity to develop foundational knowledge in the following areas:1. become familiar with the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students2. become familiar with consultative issues for the bilingual child and his/her family3. learn how to conduct cognitive assessments for linguistically and culturally diverse students4. learn how to conduct a non-verbal assessment5. become familiar with adaptation and translation issues in standardized assessments6. learn to assess bilingual/bicultural children for academic achievement *The learning goals displayed here are those for one section of this course as offered in a recent semester, and are provided for the purpose of information only.
