Description: |
Students will learn the theoretical and clinical concepts that will prepare them to conduct psychotherapy with children. The importance of engaging children through play, creating reciprocal exchanges and facilitating a reflective stance will be emphasized and the challenges involved in working with traumatized children will be reviewed. |
Learning Goals: |
In this course, students will:1. Learn the main characteristics of child psychotherapy2. Demonstrate an understanding of the concept of therapeutic action and would be able to determine which factors contributed to therapeutic change in the treatment they conducted3. Be able to analyze a child’s coping skills and his or her reactions to others 4. Be able to identify their own reactions to the child’s difficulties and use that understanding in the course of the treatment 5. Will be able to analyze a child’s play and identify what the child’s play manner and themes reflect about his or her level of development and psychic state. *The learning goals displayed here are those for one section of this course as offered in a recent semester, and are provided for the purpose of information only.
