Description: |
This course is a central course in the new master's program in counseling and psychotherapy. The course outlines the central concepts and theories of counseling and psychotherapy, providing the student with a basic understanding of important therapeutic themes and approaches in the field. |
Learning Goals: |
The student will learn how counselors have come to conceptualize the critical psychological and interpersonal components of an effective counseling relationship and will have opportunity to try out those skills in role playing situations.Students will gain an understanding of the variety of empirically and clinically tested counseling interventions that have been identified, and will learn for which clients and problems each intervention is best suited.
