Through this course, the student traces Hitchcock’s early developmental years as a filmmaker in England, his early American period in Hollywood, and his final creative period. Students will discuss Hitchcock’s film techniques, themes, and characterization and will view and analyze several of his classic films. (Distribution Reqs:Arts) |
Learning Goals: |
Lectures and discussion will focus on Course Learning Goals of understanding major recurring themes of innocence, shared guilt and redemption, the nature of evil, and obsessive love. Additional emphasis will be placed upon Hitchcock’s elegant heroes, blond sensual heroines, charming villains, use of humor, thematic plot variations, psychological symbolism, innovative cinematic and storytelling techniques. *The learning goals displayed here are those for one section of this course as offered in a recent semester, and are provided for the purpose of information only.
