Description: |
The central question of this course is: What is personality, and how does it develop? The class will read and discuss various theorists who try, in different ways, to answer this question. The paradigms of personality explored include behavioral, psychoanalytic, trait, and existential. |
Learning Goals: |
Course Objectives:1. To introduce students to the study of personality and major theories of personality.2. To introduce students to major contributors to the study of personality.3. To understand the scientific research methods used in the study of personality.4. To understand various personality assessment techniques.5. To discuss major components of personality, including motivation, sexuality, emotion, cognition, aggression, etc.6. To discuss the relevance of dreams and unconscious factors in personality7. To understand developmental aspects/theories of personality.8. To understand the basis for personality disorders.9. To understand cultural, social and belief system influences on personality.10.
