Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

Students will examine past and current homeland security events, as well as continuing threats against our personal and national safety. Students will explore federal, state and local government’s efforts, in addition to those undertaken by the private sector, to secure our homeland.

Learning Goals:   At the conclusion of the course, the student will be able to:1. Evaluate, synthesize and develop security policy incorporating basic homeland security framework; 2. Author improved homeland security policies and propose their conclusions in a public forum; 3. Critically appraise the roles of political leaders, first responders, analysts, the military, medical practitioners and others in carrying out their duties aimed at securing our homeland;4. Critique means of public communication and information dissemination;5. Understand how local, state and federal government agencies work together to protect the borders, airports and seaports of the United States.
