Description: |
Explore the instructional methods, materials and classroom techniques applicable to content area instruction using the native language and English. Examine the bilingual child's cognitive, social, and emotional adaptive needs. This course meets the methods and materials requirement for itinerant bilingual service providers including speech and language pathology and social work. |
Learning Goals: |
COURSE OBJECTIVES: 1. Students will be able to obtain data from each in English and the home language, in language proficiency and the content areas, to plan an appropriate instructional program based on approved placement. 2. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the instructional components which are taught in exemplary bilingual programs. 3. Students will learn how to determine the extent of use of first and second language for instructional purposes in a bilingual education setting. 4. Students will acquire the expertise necessary to select appropriate materials in each language for all subjects taught. 5. Students will become prepared to address the cultural variables which ease students’transition into the American mainstream. 6.
